Prayer for East Timor

For the people
of East Timor
who are desperate
fathers, worried
mothers, frightened
children,all ordinary
people like you and me,
whose blood is being poured out
in rivers with streams of tears
we pray -

That we will always choose love instead of fear;
responsibility instead of indifference;
consolation instead of suffering
LORD HEAR US...

That we will join with the people of the world and continue
to denounce violence, bullying and harassment
LORD HEAR US...

That we will, in watching events as they unfold, be
witnesses to that which is wrong and that which is right
and proclaim "Never again"
LORD HEAR US...

God of all people
You hear the cry of
the poor
You break the power of the oppressor.
Turn all hearts to the way of the
Gospel that peace might triumph over
violence
and our justice reflect your own.
Grant this though Christ our Lord
