International
conference on the use of children as soldiers
On Tuesday the 7th of September, Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the
9th there was an important conference held at the Melbourne Town Hall.
The purpose of the conference was to raise awareness of the issue
of children being used as soldiers in war. This unfortunately is happening
in many countries.
The conference also addressed other issues associated with this ie.
peace building, reconciliation, trauma of war for children etc.
One of the International guests who spoke at this conference was
Australian Mercy Sister Denise Coghlan,
who has worked for many years with refugees and displaced peple in
Cambodia.
Other International guests included Mrs Atyam, from the Concerned
Parents' Association, Uganda, and Henrik Haggstrom, from Save
the Children, Sweden.
