International conference on the use of children as soldiers

On Tuesday the 7th of September, Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th there was an important conference held at the Melbourne Town Hall.

The purpose of the conference was to raise awareness of the issue of children being used as soldiers in war. This unfortunately is happening in many countries.

The conference also addressed other issues associated with this ie. peace building, reconciliation, trauma of war for children etc.

One of the International guests who spoke at this conference was Australian Mercy Sister Denise Coghlan, who has worked for many years with refugees and displaced peple in Cambodia.

Other International guests included Mrs Atyam, from the Concerned Parents' Association, Uganda, and Henrik Haggstrom, from Save the Children, Sweden.
