Djinungs Koorngees
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Djinungs Koorngees (Footprints in the mud) is the creation story of the Wurundjeri people, the first people of this land (Melbourne). This story is set in the Yarra river (Birrarung) region of Melbourne. Bunjil the eagle and Pally Yan the bat, the creator spirits, create man and women from the mud.
Professor Joy Murphy-Wandin, Wurundjeri elder of Melbourne, was the Indigenous and creative consultant to this project which was first told by her grandfather, William Barak.
Fraynework animated this Indigenous Australian story for the SBS New Media series World Tales. It is broadcast quality, featuring a sound track in English and Woiwurrung, the Indigenous language of the story. This is the first time that this story has been animated in its original language.
World tales was launched on the SBS website on August 12th, 2004.
SOFTWARE APPLICATION
Hand drawn character parts and backgrounds were scanned into Photoshop 6 and manipulated before the images were converted to vectors using Streamline 4.
These vectors were then imported into their relevant Flash MX file where the vector images were coloured, cleaned up and animated. Each layer of the Flash movie was then exported as an eps sequence and imported into After Effects where the animation was composited.
