Overdrive
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Overdrive is a CD-ROM based resource for Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander people who are working (or are interested in
working) in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.
The framework underpinning the approach taken toward the CD-ROM
resource is based on:
- Learning methodologies researched as appropriate to Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander learners
- Sociocultural / critical language awareness approaches to
language, literacy and numeracy development
The learner undertakes language, literacy and numeracy activities
related to servicing cars that are part of a working day within
the workshop. The activities take place within a '3D Virtual
Workshop' environment where the user navigates through-out
the workshop using the mouse to turn 360 degrees at any point
and clicking to move forward in a particular direction. The learner
is provided with assistance and feedback through two 'mentor' characters
through-out their day in the workshop.
SOFTWARE USED
Overdrive was authored and programmed using Director 8.5 with
the activities being built separately in Flash 5.
The workshop environment was created and rendered using 3D Studio
Max 4.0. The graphic interface was
developed using Photoshop and all audio was captured and edited
using ProTools.
